It's an amazing thing to be on-stage with one of the best-known Celtic bands of our time! Loon Mountain and Back Home http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=21 The Grade I recently returned from a successful show at the Highland Games at Loon Mountain, New Hampshire (Sept 21-23). It was a busy schedule on Saturday and Sunday, with a special performance at the Papermill Theatre on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, we had to be in two places at once! The other half of the band stayed in back in Toronto, and participated in the 125th Annual Police games, run by the Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association. Busy weekend! Ottawa Police Memorial Sept 2007 http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=20 The last Sunday in September marks the annual national Peace Officer and Police Memorial held at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Although chillier than it has been, the weather held up nicely for a touching and well-orchestrated ceremony with over 200 pipers and drummers, brass band, mounted police, motorcycle detachments, and several hundred police officers and veterans from Canada and abroad in attendance. As always, the pipe band is proud to represent the Toronto Police Service. Warriors Day Parade 2007 http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=19 Every year, the Canadian National Exhibition official opens with the Warrior's Day Parade. This day is in honour of the brave men and women that have served Canada in war and conflict. We participate in the parade every year and we marched with our Ceremonial Unit and Police War Vets. We received an extra -special honour this year, and were awarded the "The Metropolitan Toronto Police Veterans Memorial Trophy,Pipes and Drums of 21 or More" prize. Fergus Highland Games http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=18 With Sarnia moving to the beginning of summer, Fergus now marks the finale for the Pipe Band competition season! Hard to believe that the season is already over. We braved the super-heated, dusty fields and enjoyed a late day performance with a huge, happy crowd. Both TPPB bands played well and both bands earned a commendable 2nd place for our efforts. Maxville Highland Games http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=17 The long weekend is over and we've returned from a successful Highland Games in Maxville. Kudos all around for both bands! The Grade I band placed third overall, and won drumming for their medley, and the Grade III band placed second for their medley. Gladness! Now with Maxville finished, there is only one more Games left of the summer. Sadness! Scarborough Legion 614 Tattoo http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=16 With one week to go until Maxville, we decided a public show at Scarborough Legion 614 would be both a good "dress rehearsal" for the competition and a good day to play for an audience. The weather was amazing (although that tarmac was HOT!) and burgers, hot dogs and an appreciative crowd are always good! Sarnia 2007 - Grade III http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=15 Woo Hoo! Despite the stunning lack of shade, the Grade III band survived the day and we won the Medley competition at Sarnia Highland Games held at the Hiawatha Horse Park on June 16th. Georgetown 2007 http://www.torontopolicepipeband.com/news/?entry=2 The newly reconstituted Grade III band made it's debut at Georgetown in June. Uniforms were so new that ties were being passed out only hours before competition! Out of a field of 9 bands, Toronto Police Pipe Band Gr. III received a 3rd place. Pretty good for a first time effort!
